Yeah remember that article I wrote bitching to Theo? I may need to remove that. I am Theo’s biggest critic, but I must say so far his moves look good. Marco Scutaro so far for me has been a very pleasant surprise. Solid in the field and is hitting all over the place. John Lackey has been better of late as well. Adrian Beltre- wow. I did not like the pick up as much as first, but he has been great. He may even be an MVP canadate right now.
One thing that worries me is the overuse of Daniel Bard. He is very good, but he is on pace for the scond most appearences in the AL. That worries me. They need another bullpen guy to rely on. I’d love for that to be Hideki Okajima, but they may need to look elsewhere. Maybe Matt Thornton or Phil Coke could be options. Or calling up Robert Manuel.
Last night the Red Sox beat the Diamondbacks 6-2. Dustin Pedroia and Kevin Youkilis hit two run homers.
The Yankees lost to the Phillies 6-3. Jayson Werth and Ryan Howard went back to back.
The Rays lost to the Atlanta Braves 6-2. Our old friend Eric Hinske had an RBI.
Tonight is game seven. Read all about it a BBS.
Hey, I’m still here, I’ve just been busy running NLL Blog lately. But anyways, I’m sure you wanna know my take on the season so far: I’m not ready to panic. Yes, they lost to the Phillies last night, Lackey was bad, and they are only one game over .500. But the team is hitting, and Ellsbury is coming back. Beckett is on the DL, so we don;t have to deal with his crap for a while. Lester is just plain awesome. Youkilis and Ortiz are hitting. I think this interleague crap has come at a terrible time, where all Beltre, Youk and Ortiz are hitting.
Onto by daily Theo bashing, what the Hell was he thinking signing Beckett? I mean, use that money to go out and sign a guy like Jayson Werth, or Carl Crawford. I’m not thrilled with Francona either. In that Tigers game that went extra innings, Daniel Bard was not available. Why? Beacuse he pitched 1.2 innings in a complete blowout.
Onto some good news, I will be going to the entire series vs the Tampa Bay Rays this week. So I’ll have updates about that.
Dear Theo Epstein,
You are a dope. Nice run-prevention theroy, eh? Scutaro can’t field. Cameron dropped a line drive. Beltre doesn’t know the meaning of the word walk. And why in Hell didn’t you sign some bullpen guys? Rameriz and Delcarmen are triple A players. I’d rather have Joe Nelson and Fernando Cabrera at this point. Even Alan Embree! The JD Drew contract is horrendus. He can’t hit at all right now. But the biggest problem: David Ortiz. Maybe this falls on the manager though. Why isn’t Mike Lowell in there as the DH? The real Big Papi ain’t walking through that door. It’s time to move on, and eat that salary. You where gonna do it with Lowell, a better player.
Another thing. Screw the farm system. It’s Gonzalez or bust. Trade Kelly, Buchholz, Fuentes, Kalish. Win now. Gonzalez is Mark Teixeira. He would put the Red Sox over the edge. Another rumor: Mike Lowell for Jeff Mathis. I like this. Mathis can throw guys out. Put Gonzalez at first, Youk at third, Victor DH. Mathis at catcher. This would be nice.
Love, Red Sox Nation.
The Bruins won their playoff game last night, 5-3. Ryder showed up, Thomas Vanek got hurt, Ryan Miller didn’t shut the Bruins out.
The Celtics won too. KG is likley going to be suspended. He probally deserves it.
Ubaldo Jimmenez of the Rockies threw a no-hitter last night. Not even Jason Heyward could hit him. First in Rockies history.
The Mets and Cardinals went 20 innings last night. Only the Mets…
Aaron Bates watch: Bates went 2-4 for with a double, RBI, anf runin the Pawsox heartbreaking loss to Rochester.
The Blazers need to win next week, or have Rochester lose to clinch the playoffs.
Q: Do you think the Red Sox will be as good as last year?
– Bree (via BBS.com)
A: Better. I love the Red Sox’s depth, more than any other team. If a guy like Ellsbury or Youkilis goes down the Sox are still a playoff contender. If Evan Longoria or Carl Crawford go out, forget about it. The pitching is by far thye best, and the offense is as good as anyone, (except New York) in my opinion.
Q: Could Mark Savard be having a more unlucky year ???
A: Probally not. It’s too bad the Bruins did not retailiate on Cooke Thursday night, they should have. This hurts the Bruins so much, who I think have been playing great. The Bergeron-Recchi-Sturm line is fantastic, and Blake Wheeler looks like he did at the begining of last season. If they had Savard, I could see a serious playoff run. But things look much more bleak now. The NHL is making a new head-shots rule, but it might be too little too late. The hit on Seabrook of Chicago was horrible, as well as Ovechikin’s on Campbell (ironic name).
The Celtics beat the Rockets, 94-87. Pierce had 26 points. The Celtics take on the Mavericks tonight in Dallas at 9pm.
The Red Sox lost to the Pirates, 9-7. I was at this game, right behind the on-deck circle. I got autographs from Chuck Tanner and Ron Johnson. David Ortiz hit a two run shot off Paul Maholm. I am in Dunedin tomorrow to see the Sox take on the Jays,
The Flames beat the Sharks, 4-3. The Sharks scored twice in the final two minutes, but the Flames held on to stay tied for the eight seed with Detroit.
The Oilers beat the Redwings, 3-2. Detroit remains in the playoffs by gaining the point in the SO, with the Flames still behind them. Deven Dubynk got his first career win in net for Edmonton.
News and Notes: Yesterday on WEEI’s Dale and Holley, the Bruins Shawn Thornton said he would have liked to knock out Cooke in their fight. I would have liked that too, Shawn.
Ryan Westmoreland has been moved from ICU to NRU in his recovery from brain surgery.
The Red Sox signed Alan Embree.
